RISK MANAGER (PRINCIPAL), GLOBAL ASSET MANAGERS, C£90,000 PLUS EXCELLENT PACKAGE, CITY

Our client is one of the world’s largest Fund Managers working with institutional and private clients around the World offering funds focusing on active, index and asset allocation strategies, liability driven investment, currency strategies, cash management, securities lending, hedging strategies, transitions, commodities trading and exchange traded funds.

Overview

The Risk function assists management in the identification, evaluation and management of all types of risk, but principally Counterparty, Investment Risk and Operational Risk.  The Company has a matrix Risk team structure with specialist heads of Operational, Counterparty and Investment Risk working with Regional Heads of Risk Globally.

Ideal Experience

Candidates with a focus on New Products/Product Development within Asset Management are preferred.

Key Job Responsibilities

This role is a senior role within the Europe Operational Risk team and is a hands-on role primarily involving leading the Operational Risk team’s involvement in new products, new instruments, new client /client change and business change risk assessments.  The Company has developed and grown by constantly being able to develop innovative new products, win new clients and implement successful business change. This role is an exciting opportunity to help ensure that this growth and development continues whilst improving the risk framework around new products, clients and business changes. The role will involve being the point contact for the business for new product initiatives and sitting on project working groups and steering committees with the objective to assist the committee in the identification of key risks, to make value-added recommendations to mitigate risk and to influence the committee and senior management to implement these recommendations.  The role will also involve improving the Company’s reporting of the risk related to new products, clients and business change to senior stakeholders and committees. The organisation has an annual process of meetings and workshops with senior business management to identify and prioritise the remediation of significant risks. They would expect this role to lead this process and would include regular interaction with senior management to identify and make recommendations on significant risks, presenting findings and recommendations to the European Management Committee. The role will also involve improving the process for the identification and remediation of significant risks and for more closely aligning this process to the Risk Framework. Although the primary responsibilities of the job will involve new product, instrument, client, business change and significant risks they would also expect the person employed to have broader Operational Risk experience and be able to lead and drive work right across the spectrum of operational risk activities including but not limited to risk and control assessments, error investigation and resolution and business consultancy (e.g. driving out lessons learned from errors  across the wide range of functions and product groups within the Company Europe-wide).

Skills and Requirements

  • A solid background in Risk with the hands on ability to come in and run the role competently, managing, mentoring and training
  • CFA / ACA / SII  qualification desirable but not prerequisite
  • Work experience in a financial services organization, ideally working for an investment management company or working as a consultant to the investment management industry
  • Experience of performing new products, new client risk, business change risk assessments and an ability to demonstrate how their work has helped to benefit their wider business in mitigating risk.
  • An understanding of product trends and their associated risks within the asset management industry.
  • Experience in operational risk frameworks and an ability to demonstrate how they have helped embed an operational risk framework in their organisation. Including experience in:
    • Experience of performing risk and control assessments
    • Experience of operating error investigation and resolution
  • Experience in either preparing or participating in the key risk identification for an ICAAP / or ICAS regulatory capital submission
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills and an ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.  Strong organization and coordination capabilities.
  • A track record of achieving success due to their ability
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify problems and develop solutions.  Ability to manage details while maintaining a strategic view.  Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and change
